5 Top Tips for Installing Your LVT Flooring

Installing LVT flooring can be a challenging task and it is not for the faint-hearted. If you want to make sure that you make the most out of your installation or if you want to make sure that the job goes as well as possible then this is the guide for you.

Do Lots of Research

First, you have to make sure that you do your research. This is crucial with every DIY project. There are endless videos out there for you to use and you would be surprised at how easy it is for you to utilise them when you simply sit down and pay attention. Learning from the mistakes of others is one of the best ways for you to make sure that you get the best result out of the job, so keep this in mind.

Use the Right Tools

It is so important that you use the right tools whenever you decide to lay down your LVT flooring. Ideally, you will have knee pads, a mallet, some tapping blocks, a pull bar, and a utility knife. Having a speed square will also help, as well as spacers, chalk lines, laser levels and appropriate cutting tools. Knee pads are a must-have because you will be on your knees a lot and you will certainly feel it by the end of the day. Rubber mallets are important if you want to tap the boards into each other as this will keep the pieces nice and tight. Tapping blocks and pull bars are ideal for installing floors and they ensure that the flooring is done right.

Acclimatise the Boards

When you are ready with all of the tools you need, it is then very easy for you to start on the floor. You must place whatever floor you are using in the room where it is going to be installed. This will help to bring it up to temperature and it will make it very easy for everything to rise to the temperature of the room.

Start in the Right Place

When you are starting, you have to make sure that you are using spacers. The floor and the wall will need to have a gap so that they can expand. Start in the top left corner of the room and then as you lay, make sure that you go both right and then down at the same time.

Pay Attention to Detail

For the first few rows, it may be a good idea for you to keep on going with the trial-and-error approach. Some will go better than others but as you move forward you will soon find that you gain more confidence and that you can also get better as time goes on. The only thing that you need to do, is ensure that your seams are seamless. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is way easier for you to get the job done and that you can also get a nice tight fit between the boards. If you know that one seam isn’t as tight as it could be then this will snowball, and it will stop the rest of the boards from fitting as well as they could.

Slow and steady will always win the race, and as long as you have the right tools and you take your time, you will soon find that you are able to get the best result out of your installation. You may even find that you feel even more confident with the next instalment as well, which is major to say the least.
